Where to Stay in Minneapolis: Kimpton Grand Hotel Review

Mill Ruins Park Minneapolis Kimpton Grand Hotel Minneapolis Review

If you have been following along our Passports to Life Journey for a while now, you’ll know that I love staying in upscale boutique hotels. The Kimpton brand of hotels is one of my favorites because of their unique spaces, upscale rooms with a laidback feel, and the amazing amenities they offer. I have previously stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco in Salt Lake City and the Kimpton Lorien Hotel in Alexandria, VA. If you’re trying to decide where to stay in Minneapolis, this Kimpton Grand Hotel Review should help you make that decision.

Kimpton Grand Minneapolis Overview

Minneapolis was the starting point of my 3,300-mile road trip to visit 13 midwestern states in just over a week. I am fortunate to be able to collaborate with the Kimpton Grand Minneapolis during our short stay in the city. This is an unpaid collaboration, and all views and opinions in this review are 100% my own.

Like all Kimpton Brand hotels, the Kimpton Grand is pet-friendly, so you’re four-legged friends can relax in luxury just like you! While Grace wasn’t able to come along for this trip, the folks over at Kimpton were thoughtful enough to have a cute bow for her collar waiting for me in the room when I arrived. Also waiting in the room for us were a couple of local craft beers and a cheese and cracker plate, which was very much appreciated after we got lost trying to find Minnehaha Falls earlier!

Kimpton Grand Minneapolis Room ReviewKimpton Grand Hotel Minneapolis Review

I’ve been very impressed with the rooms at all of the Kimpton Hotels that I have stayed at before. From decor to the sheer amount of space you get, Kimpton rooms feel more open and airy than your typical hotel, and I think that goes a long way towards having a comfortable stay. The bathroom in our room was also huge, and one of the things I appreciate seeing more is the lack of single-serve shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles and the use of refillable bottles in the shower. Our king-sized bed was comfortable, and our view for watching the sun sink behind the Minneapolis skyline was fantastic.

When it comes to downtown Minneapolis locations for hotels, you really can’t beat the Grand Hotel’s location. Just a few blocks from the home of the Minnesota Vikings US Bank Stadium and the home of the Minnesota Twins, Target Field, the Kimpton Grand Hotel has a phenomenal central location to most of Minneapolis’s key attractions. If you happen to be visiting Minneapolis in the winter time, you be happy to know that many of these attractions are accessible via heated walkways, so you won’t have to brave the cold temperatures very long.

One of my favorite amenities that all Kimpton branded hotels offer is the nightly wine happy hour. The happy hour is typically paired with hors-d’oeuvres, in our case that was some delicious pulled pork sliders, just the right amount of fuel I needed to push through a sunset shoot in the really cool Mill Ruins Park just a few blocks North East of the Kimpton Grand. This Kimpton Grand has a partnership with Lifetime Athletics Studio making their gym a pretty epic one. We tried to go for a swim in the 25-meter pool about a half-hour before it was supposed to close and the attendant wouldn’t let us in because she would have to do some paperwork, unfortunately, one of the amenities I was looking forward to most, I was unable to use.

A hotel review is never complete without talking about the food. In my experience, Kimpton branded hotels always have award-winning restaurants and bars located on premises. The Kimpton Grand Minneapolis is no different. The Six 15 Room has a daily happy hour from 3-7 and dinner service from 3- close each night. With a focus on shareable plates, your taste buds will be jumping for joy when they see the menu. We tried the beef skewers, bison meatballs, pot stickers, and quesadilla and we each one was better than the last.

Taking into consideration all of the sections above, I can honestly say this stay with Kimpton was my best one yet. The Grand Hotel Minneapolis has a perfect location to explore downtown Minneapolis, the amenities rival and exceed that of some of the 5-star resorts we have enjoyed in the past, and the atmosphere is fantastic. If you’re planning a trip and trying to decide where to stay in Minneapolis, look no further than the Kimpton Grand Hotel, because you’ll really enjoy your stay.
