While we were visiting Mallory’s sister in California we decided to take a quick trip to San Francisco. We knew we wanted to stay one night, but I wasn’t sure which hotel. I began my search with the Fine Hotels and Resorts a benefit of my American Express Platinum card. We decided to stay at the St Regis San Francisco. With Fine Hotels and resorts you get daily breakfast for 2, early check-in, late check-out, and an additional benefit unique to each property, which in our case was $100 food and beverage credit. My Starwood Preferred Gold Status was also recognized, so we were offered a welcome beverage or extra SPG Starpoints.
Our fantastic experience began at check-in. The employee checking us in was very sorry that there was not an upgrade in our room category, so she comped us a second room, giving Mallory’s sister Lauren a little extra privacy. The rooms we were in were Deluxe Guest Rooms on the 14th floor offering a view of a park and the city.
The room was spacious and the bathroom was great with an overhead rain shower with some of the hottest water I have ever had at a hotel. There was a console next to the bed that controlled the blinds, temperature, lights, and you could call the St Regis Butler to get room service or anything else you needed taken care of.
Once we were checked-in and had our bags in the room we decided to use the $100 food and beverage credit and have lunch at the hotel’s Vitrine restaurant. I had the Croque Monsieur with butternut squash risotto, Mallory had the Grain-Fed Chicken Breast with potato puree and the butternut squash risotto, and Lauren had the Smoked Salmon Sandwich with a side salad.
This may have been the best tasting lunch we have ever had. It was without a doubt the best grilled cheese I have ever had. The best part about it was that our food and beverage credit covered almost all of our lunch!
We explored the city for the rest of the day then ventured out to Johnny Foley’s an Irish themed dueling piano bar for some drinks and entertainment.
By the time we were back at the hotel we were exhausted, so we crashed. My only complaint about our entire stay and experience at the St Regis San Francisco was the pillows. I tend to like a firmer pillow and all but one (Mallory took it) was down-filled and soft. Other than that we had a fantastic time staying at the St Regis San Francisco and would recommend using your SPG Starpoints to book your stay. You could pay from $450 to 750 per night or just 30,000 Starpoints if you pay with points. When you take in to consideration all of the perks we received (including a free room for a night) the 30,000 points is well worth it!
