Lufthansa First Class is often regarded as one of the top first class experiences in the sky. It is one of the few airlines that actually has a very consistent first class product on their entire wide-body fleet. I was unable to find award availability from New York where I’d be able to experience one of the best first class lounges in the world at Lufthansa’s Wining and Dining lounge, but availability was abundant from Boston.
When I flew to Dubai on British Airways First Class, I mentioned that that cabin was very modern and stylish, but a little on the tight side. The Lufthansa First Class Cabin had a very clean and comfortable style and felt much more open with 4 less seats than BA First.
The seat was very wide and comfortable. The footrest conveniently opened as a place for you to store your shoes or small bag. The in-flight entertainment screen was big and noise-canceling Bose headphones were provided for use on the flight. Once turned into a bed the bedding and mattress pad Lufthansa uses was definitely the most comfortable bed I have had in the sky. My only issue was the IFE selection when it came to movies wasn’t great. Luckily the flight was short enough that I watched one movie while eating then tried to sleep for the rest of the flight.
Short overnight flights are kind of stressful for the flight attendants. Especially when there is a first-class cabin and the dining is 5 courses! There is a lot to do with very little time. Dinner started with an amuse-bouche of Zucchini stuffed with cream cheese and two olives.
After that was the classic caviar service with toast, lemon, egg, and crème Fraiche.
The salad course consisted of a trio of mini salads – A seasonal salad; a red pepper, feta, and white truffle salad; and a small plate of salamis and grilled veggies.
For my entrée, I had the osso buco. Everything was delicious. I was very happy with the service, and at this point I was stuffed!
The flight attendant offered a cheese course, but I skipped right to the Pumpkin Cheesecake for dessert, which was also fantastic.
This meal on Lufthansa First Class was probably my third favorite this year behind Etihad First and Singapore Business Class.
Although my ride was short the crew went out of their way to ensure my flight was everything I expected. The crew manager and two other flight attendants were looking after the half-full First Class cabin. They were very attentive and personable, which was a nice change from my last AA First Class Experience.
The pajamas provided were by Van Laack and were really comfortable. The shirt was like a nice long sleeve polo shirt that I will definitely wear again! The amenity kits might be my favorite part of this whole trip a beautiful Rimowa kit with La Prairie products. The hard-sided amenity kit came in use even on my flight home when I stored my sunglasses and phone chargers in it.
Once I got to Frankfurt I was wishing for another 6 hours on-board, but I instead had about 5 hours to burn. I immediately went to the Lufthansa First Class Lounge, which conveniently allows you entrance regardless of whether you are coming in or departing on Lufthansa First Class. Check-in soon to see what I thought about the Lufthansa First Class lounge!
Overall Lufthansa First Class lived up to the hype! I had a great, albeit short experience, but with Aeroplan offering redemptions from the US to Europe for only 70,000 miles, this is a great option for redeeming Aeroplan miles or AMEX Membership Rewards points.
