Hotel Review Grosvenor House Dubai

While in Dubai, Thad and I stayed at the Grosvenor House Dubai part of Starwood’s Luxury Collection Portfolio. Grosvenor House Dubai is a SPG category 6 hotel, which means you can have free nights starting at 20,000 SPG points per night. Otherwise, rooms start at about $175 per night, which for such a nice hotel is very reasonable!

Getting to the Hotel

Grosvenor House is the Dubai’s marina district, about 20 minutes from downtown Dubai and 30 minutes from Dubai airport. Our room came with complimentary airport transfers, so we were greeted right outside of customs and taken to a very nice Audi A8 for our transfer to the hotel. Our driver offered us cool towels after getting settled in the car, because it was still 90 degrees outside even though it was about midnight. Midnight to about 3:30 AM is rush hour at the Dubai airport because many flight leave then to get to Europe before 9 AM and Asia by early evening.

When we arrived at the hotel we were escorted to the check-in desk and quickly taken up to our room. The hotel had some cool statues when you first walk in like a red and blue striped horse, a giant red gorilla, and a red falcon in the lobby

There are two towers to the Grosvenor House which is connected by a skywalk. We were upgraded to a suite on the club level because of my SPG Gold status. The room was very nice. We had a large bathroom, with an amazing rain shower that had water that got way too hot. The toiletries were Bvlgari and smelled very nice.

We had two balconies, although the view was pretty much just of the other tower in the hotel. There was a nice living area and a fairly large bedroom that oddly had two individual twin beds pushed together on a King sized frame.

The television in the bedroom was not receiving a cable signal, but that was OK since we didn’t spend a whole lot of time in the room. I’d have to say the staff at the Grosvenor House was one of the most attentive I have experienced.

We were both hungry when we arrived, so naturally we ordered some local cuisine from room service, two pizzas and an order of French fries. The room service menu was very extensive and had some pretty ridiculous options like the $2,000 caviar service to go along with the $1,800 bottle of Beluga Vodka.

After dinner we decided to grab a drink at the hotel’s bar which ironically is called The Bar. The atmosphere was really cool and there was a billiard table. The drink menu was pretty extensive, so we each tried something different. Since we were in a suite we had access to the hotel’s club lounge, Level 5, which also served complimentary breakfast. The club was large and had a classy modern atmosphere

To get the blood flowing, I rolled out of bed at the crack of dawn and stumbled to the gym. The gym shared the fourth floor with the B/Attitude Spa which had décor that reminded me of the statues in Disney’s Mulan which confused me at first but I finally found the gym. The gym had tons of treadmills, elliptical, free weights and even trainers on site. While running on the treadmill, I could see all the boats on the water and also the site where you can sky dive in Dubai.

It wouldn’t be a complete review if we didn’t talk about the pool. When we arrived they got our seat ready for us. Then they brought us water and fruit kabobs which was quite refreshing in the hot weather. One thing that we noticed was that with the hotel and buildings being so tall that it was hard to get sun by the pool. While lounging at the pool we heard one of the nearby mosques’ call to prayer.

Bottom Line

Even though the Grosvenor House Dubai is in the Marina district about 20 minutes from downtown Dubai, I would definitely recommend it. First off the price is hard to beat! While Grosvenor House isn’t a 7-star resort like Burj Al Arab ($1,300/night for the cheapest room), if you are visiting Dubai for the first time you most likely won’t be spending a whole lot of time in the hotel anyway.

We used Uber to get around in Dubai, which made being in the Marina district even less of an issue since we could Uber wherever we wanted to go.

Dubai is a really cool city with so much to do. We really only spent about 48 hours in the city, so my next post will cover what we did in our short time there and some thoughts on how to maximize your time if you have a short visit to Dubai!
