Hawaii was a dream for us for a long time and we finally made it happen this May when we spent five days on the Big Island of Hawaii and another 3 days on Oahu in Honolulu. When trying to figure out where to stay on the big island there is one five-star resort that really stuck out to me, The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai. It’s hard to imagine another hotel in Hawaii that could be any better than The Four Seasons.
From the time we landed at Kona International Airport the five-star service began. We were greeted as soon as we crossed the landside part of the Kona Terminal and were driven in a private taxi straight to the resort about 15 minutes north of the airport. Upon arrival at the Four Seasons Hualalai we were given leis and mai tais, so off to the best start possible! After a quick property tour, we were shown to our room a beautiful Oceanview room with a huge balcony!
One of the most important things to us when doing a hotel review is how comfortable is the bed. The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai gets 10/10 because I don’t think I’ve ever had a more comfortable bed when staying at a hotel. Another important feature is how comfortable are the robes? Again the Four Seasons Hualalai gets top marks because the lightweight robes were perfect for the tropical Hawaii evenings. The only area where I could see the oceanfront room being any better would be a larger soaking tub because it was a little tight for two people.
A hotel review isn’t complete without talking about the food at the Four Seasons Hualalai on the big island. Simply put, the food was incredible. We ate at all but one of the restaurants and had room service a few times and we were very impressed. One of the best meals was our special private dinner under the stars on the beach.
Being the best place to stay on the big island means you need to have plenty of dining options and the Four Seasons Hualalai does with 5 restaurants and lounges and additional options poolside or in-room. Everything we ate was amazing, but we especially enjoyed the Hualalai Trading company for breakfast and coffee where you can get acai bowls or breakfast sandwiches and some killer cold brew. Another cool experience was catching an ono while on a fishing excursion and having the chef at the pool and beachside Beach Tree Restaurant prepare the freshest sashimi and fish tacos we have ever enjoyed.
Equally as impressive as the dining options, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai had more activities than we could even imagine doing during our four-night, five-day stay. There are three swimming pools and a brackish lagoon for snorkeling, daily fitness and yoga classes at the spa area and even a championship golf course.
With so many activities on the resort property you wouldn’t have to leave if you didn’t want to, but if you do want to explore the island and try some of the other activities the big island has to offer like diving with manta rays, taking a scenic helicopter ride, or deep sea fishing the resort’s concierge is the most helpful and responsive I have ever experienced at any hotel or resort.
The room, the service, and all of the amenities make The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai the best place to stay on the big island. My experience staying there was nothing short of perfect and when it was time to check out I dragged my feet because I just didn’t want to leave. When staying at a resort like the Four Seasons Hualalai make sure you use your Citi Prestige Card to get your fourth night free!
