Finding the Best Deals on Flights

The number one reasons people say that they don’t travel more is the cost of plane tickets. Luckily I have a few resources that can help you find the best deals on your next big adventure. This resource contains affiliate links that help support this blog.

You will see all kinds of articles and blog posts claiming there is a certain day and time that you will be able to find the best deals on flights. I haven’t found that to be true, but there are a few tools and websites that I use to help me score the best deal on flights.

ITA Matrix/Google Flights

The first place I go when I’m trying to decide on a trip, and or the routing of my trip is the ITA Matrix, which is essentially the back end of Google Flights that allows you to do advanced searches like by airline alliance to maximize your points and loyalty.

Finding Cheap Flights on Skyscanner

My favorite part about Skyscanner is the option to show you the cheapest flights to anywhere from your home airport. You can also search entire months to find the best deal on your flights. Sometimes we need a bit of spontaneity, so I’ll check out the Tampa to Everywhere search to get ideas for our next adventure.

Finding Flight Deals on Priceline

The other third-party tool that I use to find the best price for flights is Priceline. The interface is super easy to use and allows you to narrow down your search by airline, departure/arrival time, and even connection cities to allow you to avoid those airports that are notorious for delays.

Finding Flight Deals Directly With Airlines

Occasionally the flight you want, or need won’t be listed on a third party site like Priceline or Skyscanner. The only way to book this flight is directly through the airline’s website. Airlines use a dynamic pricing model that will increase the price of the flight if more searches for the dates and/or routes occur, so if your only option is to book with the airline make sure you use the ITA Matrix tool to find the option that best suits your travel needs before heading over to the airline’s website. Below you can find direct links to some of my favorite airlines’ pages.
