Getting to Singapore

My Itinerary for Singapore

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that there were some crazy deals for travel to Asia. I happened to book one of those deals! Later after a little research for the trip I figured out that I booked the inaugural flight from Los Angeles to Hong Kong on American Airlines! As soon as I booked the trip I called the AAdvantage Executive Platinum customer service desk to request my Systemwide upgrades. My total airfare from New York JFK to HKG was less than $500.

At the time of writing this my systemwide upgrades haven’t yet cleared, but my chances are looking pretty good. By using ExpertFlyer I am able to monitor the different available fare classes for my flights and all business class fare classes have 7+ available seats still with 14 days to departure.

Update: My upgrade from LAX to HKG cleared yesterday (1 week until departure)! I will be in Business Class for the inaugural American Airlines flight! Now I am just waiting for my JFK to LAX to clear so I can experience AA’s transcon A321 business class. Since JFK to LAX is such a popular route I don’t expect this one to clear until maybe the day of or day before.

To get to Singapore, I booked Singapore Airlines business class from Hong Kong to Singapore. I book this by transferring 47,000 Citi ThankYou points to my Singapore Airlines Krisflyer, which took about 2 days to complete.

I decided to give myself a day on the way home in Hong Kong to try and do some of the stuff we missed while Mallory and I were there.

Where I am staying

In Singapore I found a great deal at the Conrad Centennial Singapore. Hilton HHonors had special deal offering up to 30% off standard rates. I was able to book a King Suite for less than the normal price of a standard room. On top of that I was able to use Citi Prestige’s 4th night free benefit to get my fourth night (and most expensive night) for free! I have read some good reviews about the Conrad Singapore and it has a great location, so I am excited to stay there.

For my one night in Hong Kong, I will be staying at the W Hong Kong. Located in the same building as the Ritz Carlton where we had drinks at the highest bar in the world, the location is good and I am excited to try another hotel in the SPG portfolio.

What I am excited about

This trip is exciting for me for a few reasons.

1. I have never been to Singapore, and I have the possibility to visit Malaysia and/or Indonesia.

2. The food in Singapore is supposed to be Amazing! I recently watched Anthony Bourdain’s show The Layover for Singapore, which provided some good ideas for places to eat.

3. There is a lot to do in Singapore from night safaris to visiting the cloud forest.

4. Singapore’s Changi airport is regarded as the best in the world.

5. I get to fly on Singapore Airlines’ brand new Airbus A350

There are still rumors of cheap travel to Singapore from US countries, so check out the ITA Matrix or Airfare Watch Dog for more travel deals. There will be a few posts coming from this trip so please stay tuned for updates! Follow me on twitter and Instagram @passports2life for more content and a look into my every day life!
