The final stop on our trip through Italy was the beautiful city of Rome. Choosing the best place to stay in Rome can be a challenge just because there are so many luxury hotels in Rome. Most of Rome’s main sights and attractions are near the city center, so we decided to look for hotels near the Spanish Steps.
Hotel Eden is part of the Dorchester Collection group of hotels, which is a small group of very luxurious hotels. You can book directly on Dorchester Collection’s website. Thanks to my American Express Platinum, we booked through the Fine Hotels and Resorts program. American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts is one of my favorites when booking luxury resorts because the rates include daily breakfast for two, a room upgrade when available, guaranteed late check-out and $100 resort credit to use at either the spa or hotel bars and restaurants. Occasionally you can find a crazy deal on luxury hotels using Hotels.com, and a luxury hotel like Hotel Eden that might cost you upwards of $500+ per night is a great candidate for the free night you earn after booking 10 nights on Hotels.com.
We arrived from Positano by train into Roma Termini station, which is about a mile from Hotel Eden, so I emailed the concierge ahead of time to set up a car transfer to the hotel. We were met by our driver at the train and he escorted us to our extremely comfortable Mercedes sedan limo for the short 12-minute drive to Hotel Eden. We checked-in and our bags were brought up to our beautiful room on the second floor.
When trying to find the best place to stay in Rome or really any Italian town, location is a very important thing to take into consideration. While Rome is a modern city that has a pretty good public transportation system, although we still prefer to walk most places whenever possible. The Spanish Steps are a pretty central location with easy walks to sights like Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and the Colosseum. Hotel Eden is about a 5-minute walk from the Spanish Steps making it the best place to stay in Rome when it comes to luxury hotels in Rome. If you’re looking for the best 5-star hotel near the Spanish Steps, Hotel Eden is for you.
During our three-night stay at Hotel Eden, we were able to try both of the restaurants for dinner, had drinks at the lobby bar “La Libreria”, and also breakfast in Il Giardino. Everything was fantastic and our meal at Hotel Eden’s signature restaurant La Terrazza was my favorite meal of our entire trip.
Hotel Eden’s signature restaurant is La Terrazza was awarded one star on the latest Michelin Guide. I would describe it as an innovative take on fine dining with a focus on utilizing the variety of ingredients that can be found locally. We opted for the Harmony Tasting Menu with wine pairings that included 8 courses and 4 different wines. They were very accommodating with my shellfish allergy as 3 of our 8 courses contained shellfish or octopus, and the service was some of the best I’ve ever experienced.
The quicker, more casual restaurant at Hotel Eden is Il Giardino. With its open kitchen and freshly made from scratch Italian cuisine, you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I had the best rigatoni I’ve ever had at Il Giardino. So if you’re in Rome looking for a delicious and affordable meal at one of the luxury hotels near the Spanish Steps, check out Il Giardino.
We booked a Prestige Room through American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts platform. The room was spacious and updated since Hotel Eden just completed a 2-year long renovation. The bed was softer than we prefer but still comfortable, and the bathroom and shower were the largest of any room we had this entire trip. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the room because we were out exploring Rome, but the room was very comfortable for the time we spent there. One of the coolest features is that the entire room can be controlled from an iPad including the temperature, lights, and blinds. You can even make room service orders or restaurant reservations from it! We definitely appreciate the modern touches in this beautiful classic hotel.
Like most five star hotels in Rome, Hotel Eden has loads of amenities to offer its guests. The Eden Spa is the hotel’s spa that offers a wide range of treatments to help you recharge. In your room, you’ll find some really nice Bottega Veneta shower products. There is also a small gym, but we didn’t check it out since we were walking about 8 miles each day while exploring Rome.
From the moment we were greeted at the train station until we were dropped off at the airport to end our journey through Italy, the level of service we received went above and beyond what you’d expect from a luxury hotel in Rome. The concierge was very helpful when it came to securing reservations for the hotel restaurants and offering recommendations for dinner near the Spanish Steps. If top-notch service is something you consider when choosing the best place to stay in Rome, then you won’t be disappointed by the service at Hotel Eden.
There’s no shortage of luxury hotels in Rome to choose from when deciding where to stay. If you’re looking for a luxury hotel with a great location, wonderful restaurants, and top-notch service, you won’t find a better hotel than Dorchester Collection’s Hotel Eden.
